Of course, a society can be moral and ethical without

religion, it

is possible. There are societies of atheists that are moral, and there were

communist countries that had no religion whose people were perfectly moral and

ethical. It is human instinct to be such, we have the free will to go against

that, but it is possible for a society to be moral and ethical without

religion. However, whether it is likely that they will be moral and

ethical without religion is another matter. As I said previously religion gives

society focus. It tells you how to live and the only choice you have to make is

how much you are going to follow those rules. This means that everyone keeps

the same rules throughout, with, or without a secular legal system, and

everyone knows for sure the difference between right and wrong, and there is a

system of reward and punishment and everyone in society knows where they stand.

However, society would quite quickly introduce authority and a legal system,

naturally, and sooner rather than later community life would be similar to that

of a religious community.
