The Jewishness Jesus
Jesus was raised a Jew from the time he was born. All of Jesus? ancestors were Jews. His family followed all of the Jewish customs starting off with his circumcision when he was eight days old (Luke 2:21). He was +given a Jewish name Yeshua, which means God, saves.
During Jesus? youth, he undoubtedly received a Jewish education taught in the synagogue. Jesus also participated in Jewish traditions like the law of the Sabbath, purity, and atonement. Every year Jesus? family went to Jerusalem to celebrate the Passover (Luke 2:41-43). Another tradition that Jesus observed was the weekly trip to the Synagogue every Sabbath even during his traveling ministry (Luke 4:15, 16-27, 44). Jesus also practiced fasting and alms giving. Once Jesus fasted for forty days and forty nights before he was said to be tempted by the devil.
Jesus did not only observe Jewish customs and traditions he wore Jewish cloths. Certainly being faithful to the law Jesus wore the tsitsith. Translated into English the tsitsith was like a hem or fringe of a garment. It is said that people would touch the hem of Jesus? robe and they would be hilled of all of there sickness.
Event though Jesus was responsible for starting Christianity he still observed all Jewish traditions and law. Jesus was very much a Jew.
