Perhaps, it was difficult for us to give a definite answer earlier. But now we understand that the time to choose our future profession has come. Finishing school is the beginning of an independent life for millions of school-leavers.
Many roads are open before us: technical schools, colleges and universities. Centuries ago there were only a few jobs: people were farmers, bakers, butchers or carpenters. Today there are thousands of different kinds of jobs, and new ones are constantly appearing. No wonder that it is not an easy thing to make the right choice. When choosing a future career, we should consider different factors.
In my opinion, money is one of the most important factors when you make a choice. There are highly paid jobs and low-paid jobs. For example, a businessman, a president or a film star, are highly paid jobs. A worker, a doctor or an engineer, are low-paid jobs. I think everybody wants to earn as much money as possible. Training, promotional prospects and conditions should be also taken into account.
On the other hand, it’s good when you get satisfaction from your job. It is very important to choose a profession that suits your interests. In my opinion, a job should be interesting and socially important. Some jobs are considered to be more suitable for men and others for women. For example, the professions of secretary or nurse are more suitable for women.
A lifeguard or pilots are more likely the jobs for men. You should also decide whether you want to work indoors or outdoors. To make the right choice, you should take into account your traits of character. It goes without saying that to become a good doctor you must be patient, caring and kind. Teacher’s work requires love for children, profound knowledge of subjects, and the ability to explain.
A secretary has to be efficient and careful in order to do her work quickly and accurately. Salespeople need to be friendly and persuasive, to get people buy their products. There are so many people who influence us in choosing our occupation. Parents and friends play a very important role in our choices. I have always been interested in economics and I am good at
Maths. I have an aptitude for working with people, and I think I’m rather communicative and have good social skills. I have good analytical abilities and I am good at problem-solving. Besides, I am good at English. English has become the standard language for all kinds of international business communications. To know English today is absolutely necessary for every businessman.
To become a successful businessman you should know a lot. So after finishing school I want to enter the university and to study marketing or management. Management deals mainly with people. A manager is a person who directly supervises people in an organization. Managers spend a great deal of time communicating, coordinating and making decisions affecting the daily operations of their organization. Almost everything a manager does involve decisions, and in decision-
making there is always uncertainty and risk. So managing is a very interesting, but difficult, job. Marketing deals with market research and commercial activity in general. It involves analyzing business situations, evaluating market opportunities, developing market strategies and controlling their implementation. It is important for a specialist in marketing to be flexible and prepared to make adjustments where necessary, as it is unlikely that any marketing plan will succeed
exactly as planned. I haven’t decided yet what to study. But I still have time to think and to choose. The problem of choosing the future profession has always been very important. The profession a person chooses in many ways determines his future life. This is a universal problem of our epoch. Every generation in this or that way comes across it. For most people choosing a career is not an easy task.
It is one of the most important decisions one makes in life. The properly chosen career makes a person happy and successful for the rest of his life. There are several factors that influence the decision of young people to make their choice. They concern material and spiritual aspects of the future profession. It is generally believed that professions should be both prestigious and interesting.
Everybody wants to benefit from the social privileges provided by the profession. At the same time other factors are important. Much depends on the inclinations and interests of the person. Although it is wonderful when one's hobby becomes one's profession it seldom happens in reality. Another important factor is social environment. The profession of the parents often in this or that way influences the future profession of their children.
Today we have dynasties of physicians, historians, lawyers, economists, pilots, and military officers. It is impossible to forget about the material aspect of the future profession. It indicates the level of the society's values. Today all professions can be classified as prestigious and not prestigious. The problem of prestige is subjective. Nobody can explain the meaning of this notion. "
Prestigious" jobs give a chance to an individual to enter the upper circles of the society. When the job is prestigious money is of secondary importance. The future profession should be interesting and meet the demands of the person. To avoid mistakes, I discuss career prospects with my friends even today. Some of us want to become physicians, others teachers, economists, historians, historians of art, mathematicians,
biologists, and computer operators. All the professions are very useful. Physicians help people to be healthy and live a long life. They save the lives of their patients. This profession requires well-educated people. Mistakes are impossible in this profession. Physicians should be very patient and attentive with their patients. Teachers also should be patient and kind.
Teachers should not only give knowledge to their pupils but understand their problems, help them to become real citizens of their country, be honest and hard working. For education to be successful, teachers and pupils should work together. Every word and every gesture of the teacher should be carefully chosen, otherwise the misunderstanding is inevitable. Certainly, it is very difficult to be a teacher, because sometimes pupils do not behave
properly. They can shout, whistle, and drum on the desk. Teachers should maintain discipline among the troublemakers. At the same time one should not forget that discipline should work hand in hand with freedom. Freedom is welcomed if it helps a pupil to learn. Teachers should encourage their pupils to do things successfully.
Teachers should be well educated themselves. Unfortunately both professions - physician and teacher are not well paid in our country. One has to be an enthusiast to choose one of them. I do not know how to cope with this problem but it is said that a state declines if the government does not support health care and education. Today the most popular professions are lawyers and economists. These professions are prestigious. After graduating from
Law and Economics Faculties it is possible to find good jobs. Law and Economics students are better motivated to do their best because they have clearly set goals. Their competence and knowledge, required by the developing business economy, are well paid. To be a designer is attractive too. This profession can fit creative people who know how to make things around them look nice. For those young adults who choose the profession of a chemist, a mathematician
or a physicist the determinant factor is not prestige but interest and inclination. To be a biologist is very prestigious and interesting today, because the biologists are at the forefront of cloning. They are on the threshold of great discoveries. I think that to be a sociologist or a psychologist is very interesting and useful too. Psychologists try to help people to cope with their spiritual problems.
Sociologists study the health of the society. One of the most fashionable and prestigious professions of today is that of a computer operator. Although computers came into our life only in the 1960s they quickly gained the ground of the contemporary society having become its indispensable part. Today our life is entirely connected with computers. With the help of computers people can do a lot of wonderful things from controlling spaceship up to
buying books and participating in virtual conferences. New programs are needed all the time to meet the increasing demands of our time. The roots of computer science lie primarily in the related fields of electrical engineering and mathematics. Electrical engineering physics and mathematics became the source of the development of computers. Boolean algebra developed in the 19-th century made its contribution to the elaboration of different
programs. Computers began to be widely used 40 years ago. From the start they were used for computational support of scientific and engineering disciplines and for business needs. Mathematicians did a lot for the development of the computer science. The significance of Mathematics in the general system of human knowledge constantly rises. Modern mathematical ideas and methods are used for the control of spaceship flights, different branches
of industry, and transport systems. Applied Mathematics is part of different arts and sciences, such as Physics, Biology, Medicine, and Linguistics. I think that to be a historian is also very important today. People think that it is possible to live without looking back at the historical past. But it is a mistaken view. We cannot live without history because it is around us. By analyzing the past we can avoid the mistakes in the future.
If people do not use the experience of the past they will inevitably make mistake in the present. Historians have always tried to understand past human lives and societies. History helps to understand the global historical process. Historians interpret the processes of the past to explain the processes of the present and foresee the processes of the future. I have not made up my mind which profession to choose.
There are neither good nor bad professions. The problem is that every profession should fit the person to make him happy. I think the sooner a person chooses his future profession the better it is. He can attend specialized classes to be well prepared for the entrance exams. Some people try to postpone taking a decision. They think that they will take it later. They pretend that such a problem does not exist at all.
I think that this way deprives the person of a lot of opportunities. Unfortunately, not everyone understands the necessity of making a conscious choice of the future profession. Some pupils simply follow blindly in the footsteps of their parents, relatives or friends. Such approach can bring about terrible mistakes. I think that it is necessary to start thinking about the future profession as soon as possible. It is high time for discussing this problem with parents
and friends. At the age of fifteen, students in Russia have to make some important decisions. Will they continue on at school? Or will they enter a lyceum or a gymnasium? Of course, it’s not easy to make the right choice. In our country a nine-year education is compulsory and after the ninth form students have an opportunity to choose. To enter a university or a college it is necessary to study two more years, and take five
examinations on finishing the eleventh form. To get a professional education, students have to enter a technical college or a vocational school and study for three years. Finally, they may finish their education, leave school, and get a job. The choice depends on their likes and dislikes. When choosing a place for future studies, it’s a good idea to consider a number of factors. First of all, we should take into account our own preferences
and find out what our talents are. We can do this through aptitude tests, interviews with specialties, and consulting reference books on the subjects that interest us. Different types of schools, for example lyceums and gymnasiums, often specialize in various fields. They can offer a good choice of subjects that will be useful in a future profession. Most of them are affiliated with universities and colleges and help pupils to prepare for their entrance
examinations. I am not sure what I am going to do when I leave school. By the time I finish school I will have already formed a much better idea of what I’d like to do. But the problem is we have to decide which subjects to study for university or college two years before we finish school. It’s not easy to make the right choice. There are a number of things we could do. For some of the most interesting professions, like medicine,
you have to be very good at chemistry, and I am not much of a chemist. Although my parents are doctors, I don’t seem to be very interested in caring for others and helping them with their problems. I don’t think it’s the best decision to follow in the footsteps of a parent or a relative if you are not interested in this profession. I have always wanted to be something like a computer programmer, because
I like computers and I am interested in knowing how computer programmes work. Besides, I have an aptitude for working with figures and solving mathematical problems. Maths is my favourite subject, and I am really good at it. So I think I can work in a scientific or computational field. As far as my personal qualities are concerned, I can say that
I’m creative and hard-working; I have good logical-reasoning and problem-solving skills. Besides, I’m rather communicative and like to work in a team. So I feel I can become a good specialist in programming. To my mind the profession of a programmer has a lot of advantages. It is a highly paid job, and it can offer many opportunities.
I will be able to work on the full range of development activities, such as analysis, design, coding, testing and implementation. Computers are the most rapidly changing sphere of modern technology. The next generation of computers will be able to talk and even to think. We are living in the age of information. And I think that the future will be just filled with computers. Today, in the USA people work, go shopping, or even go on dates, sitting at their computers.
But to become a good specialist in computing, you should know a lot of programming languages and application programmes. So after finishing school it is necessary for me to enter a university or a college and to study computer science. I’ll have to take three entrance examinations: in Maths, Physics and Literary composition. If I am lucky, I’ll have the chance to study interesting sciences, and to listen to the lectures of famous professors.
However, it’s very difficult to pass entrance examinations. The school I am now studying in is a comprehensive school with a standard curriculum. Though the teachers here are very knowledgeable and experienced, my school only offers general education. So after finishing the ninth form, I would like to leave it and to enter a lyceum of information technologies. It gives its pupils profound knowledge in Maths, Physics and other academic subjects.
Besides, pupils are offered a wide choice of elective subjects connected with computers. They study different programming languages and learn how to write programmes. The teachers there are friendly and well-qualified. The lyceum is known for its academic excellence. I hope my education at the lyceum will form a basis for my future occupation. But it goes without saying that
I’ll need some extra knowledge to pass my entrance exams at the university or college. That is why I’ll have to take preparatory courses in Maths and Physics. Anyway, I have to get down to some hard work now, if I want to achieve my aims. When you leave school you understand that the time to choose your future profession, your future life has become. It’s not an easy to make the right choice of a job.
I have known for long time that leaving school is the beginning of my independent life, the beginning of a far more serious examination of my abilities and character. Choosing a career is like any other activity; it is best to work to a plan. Too many people start looking for a specific job before thinking out their occupational aims. It is a good idea to begin by attempting to define in clear terms what your requirements are from a
career. This involves taking a realistic view of your strengths and weaknesses. You may think for example, that you would like a job, which involves organizing people, but liking such a job is not a sufficient reason if experience you already may have suggests that this is not your strong point. On the other hand, you should remember that training would equip you to do new things. A further point to consider is how far you will be willing to do for a time things which you do not
like knowing that they are necessary to achieve your longer term objectives. Having thought carefully about the sort of person you are, try to work out a realistic set of occupational requirement. In particular, you can answer to important questions. First: what sort of life do you want to lead? For example, do you want to live in the country or in the town? Is leisure time of great importance to you?
Is the size of your salary important? Do you want to put down roots or travel widely? Second: what sort of work do you want to do? For example, do you like working alone or with others? Does teaching people appeal to you? Do you want to be an organizer of other people’s activities? Do you want to develop new ideas and initiate changes? And what we can do to find good well – paid job when you starting with looking for it?
Firstly you must make sure that you have a CV that is up - to – date. Emphasize the positive aspects of your career history and outline the range of skills you possess which could be useful to an available in the free leaflet from your local Job Centre. Anyway once you’ve got a CV the next thing is to get it into the hands of possible employers. There are several ways to do this. And then you should check the newspapers on a regular basis for
vacancies. Think what kind of jobs you could actually do. It may well be the case that you have the skills necessary to do work which you hadn’t previously thought of. So don’t restrict yourself unnecessarily. Also make sure you ask your family and friends about work as up to fifty per cent of job vacancies never get advertised in the newspapers at all. Another thing you can always do is to make a list of organizations which need your kind of skills and
just send them a copy of your CV. An employer may have a vacancy or they often put your CV in their files and contact you later when a vacancy arises. It’s high time to think seriously about my future .In my opinion, it s still very hard to say exactly what profession to choose. We may debate a lot about social importance and prestige of our future profession, but
I think it must be close to our soul. It’s really very important to take a right decision because sometimes people make great mistakes in choosing a profession, to my mind they` re afraid to look silly in eyes of others, or to disappoint their parents. That is why, many people have to suffer, refusing of their dream .I suppose, the main thing is to decide correctly what you want to do in future or how you want your future to be, and don `t pay attention to what other people say.
I consider our life is in our hands and we must try our best to achieve all our goals. The only thing I know exact what you want to do must go from your heart your profession depends on you; otherwise your job will bring you no satisfaction. If you want to know my opinion, I’ve already decided whom I want to be and hardly someone could influence me or hardly
I `ll. Change my mind .I have been thinking about my future profession for ten years, and nobody hindered me in taking a decision .I `m lucky my parents try to understand and to help me, I `m glad they have the same opinion .I `d say I `m rather creative person, I `m captivated by art, music and learning languages .I `m also very keen on literature. But it’s hard to find a profession, where these hobbies are joined.
To become a journalist is very attractive for me .If I were a journalist, I would work in famous newspapers, magazines or maybe, even on television .I think journalism is one of the most exciting profession, and I suppose, it `s very interesting to communicate with different people from all parts of the world, and to know new information .Journalism also gives opportunity to denounce your thoughts to others.
To my mind, journalist must be honest and sincere in attitude to people around .But I must work hard if I want to be a journalist ,because it `s not easy as may seem at first .I believe ,if I were a journalist I would choose the most interesting and exciting topics for my articles ,I would write about rock ,pop and classical music ,about show-business and new young talents . In fact , I wanted and still want to be a singer .
It was my wish since my childhood .When I was a kid, I often imagined myself on the stage singing and dancing .My parents understood that it `s not only a hobby, but also my dream and allowed me to study at musical school .Now ,I study at musical school on vocal department, and who knows ,maybe someday I `ll become famous singer .I can `t live without music, with the help of music
I express my emotions and get rid of my troubles .If I were a singer I would change peoples mind , would make them more kind with the help of my songs. I dream to become a journalist and get acquainted with musical producers or people from the world of show business, who can help me to become a star. I hope I’ll find a profession in which I could show my personality.
I also want to say that the profession should be chosen according to the character and hobbies of the person. That’s why parents mustn’t make their children choose the thing they like (parents like). Children must do it themselves. Because they must love the thing they do, believe that people need them and their job will bring them more pleasure. I have interrogated pupils of my class - "What will you choose for yourselves in the future?"
Its results are here: Family and job - 76% Job and career - 16% Family - 8% The list of the used literature • Headway I and II • Blueprint • Hotline • Word Class • Enterprise • Rising Star • Internet
