Choosing a career When they leave school, millions of young people begin an independent life. They can start a working career, go into business or continue schooling to receive a higher education. There is one institute or a few institutes in nearly every Russian city. There are dozens of them in Moscow and St. Petersburg. If you want to get a professional training you can enter a technical college.

It is said that there are over 2000 professions in the world, so it is quite difficult to choose and make a decision. Some follow their own choice and some follow their parents advice. I have asked myself a lot of times What do I want to be when I leave school? A few years ago it was difficult for me to give a definite answer. As the years passed I changed my mind for several times about which science or sphere of industry to

specialize in. It was difficult to make up my mind and choose one of the hundreds jobs to which i might be better suited. When I was a child I wanted to become a doctor. I had a passion to tread teddy bears which had torn off paws or a lost eye. When I became elder I began to look on my parents job. I tried myself as a TV-correspondent writing the news of our apartment and then at evening talking

them from the cardboard box. Sometimes I even appeared on TV, of course with my mother s help. Then I began to be interested at my father s work. He is a programmer. But as we had no computer then this idea was gone, hardly having arisen. Then I decided to try myself in the fields, which my friends had chosen for them. I started to study English seriously, as I wanted to be an interpreter.

I began learning to draw because I wanted to be a landscape architect. I got some success and I don t think it was a waste of time English is needed almost everywhere and, who knows, maybe my knowledge in painting will be useful too. But all these professions don t suite me in quite. Now I want to enter Plechanovskaya Academy in Moscow and to get a higher economical education.

But in fact I don t think the profession of economist is the best one for me. My parents advised it for me but as for me I find it a little boring and monotonous. I just want to receive a higher education. Today I am interested in programming and my father, who has no programmer s education and who does his job better then ones who have it, is always glad to help me. He says, and I really believe it, that I can become a good programmer only with such a father.

But I have a great dream else about my future profession, and maybe this dream will remain a dream forever. About a year ago I tried to write songs and, to my surprise, I had some success in it. Also I realized that I can sing them and not very awful. But the main problem is that I have no musician education, so, if I could remember the music at first time, then, when the time passed and the number of the songs increased,

I forgot it because I couldn t write it on a piece of paper. It s a pity. But I m still dreaming to become a superstar although my mother says that it s only children s nonsense. I look at the world realistically and I see all the difficulties of such a situation, but who knows how the world will turn tomorrow
