After reading the text on David Quammen?s voyage through many different islands of the world, I was hit with a certain impression of the world. The first thing that amazed me about how David Quammen wrote the book is that, within a few chapters I felt that the timeline of the creation of earth and suddenly shrunk immensely. At first thought, one might think that the evolution of the earth was something only for the professors and researchers of universities to partially understand. He explained how the earth, as we now it today, was most probably derived from one originally large island that ruptured and split into a collection of smaller islands. From this it became a lot easier for me to understand how evolution works, since I can understand evolution on a small island, evolution of the world must thus be similar, but just in a much larger scale. Still one thing that remains unclear to me is how all this came about without the given assumption of creation by a heavenly being. It seems to me the that the author neglects to explain the other view of creation without God. Normally I would find no fault in this, since it is his book, but it seems as though he gives both sides of every argument to which he brings forth. All in all I found these beginning to not only be stimulating, but also to contain a certain quality that leaves me yearning to read more, which I can easily say is a rare quality at that.
