Does He Exist Essay, Research Paper
Does He Exist?
Many theories exist to explain the ongoing debate on the existence of God. Whether or not we have a belief on this subject is irrelevant. We are here today and we got here somehow. People embrace different versions of the birth of our existence. I would like to share my version and what I think about the rest of them:
People grow up in different environments, families, and circumstances. Our culture nurtures beliefs and traditions from all of these factors. As a result of these factors, we acquire our beliefs as to the existence of God. At an early age children who are very susceptible to brainwashing, get taken to church and hear over and over about the life of Jesus. Before they reach middle school, a good majority of them believe in the existence of Jesus Christ. Once a belief has been placed on someone it is up to the individual to keep an open mind. One has to read all opposing sides before making an educated guess.
I grew up with my grandfather, Vigen Geodakyan, who works for the University of Darwin in Moscow. He has published many theories on sexual dimorphism and how it relates to the evolution of the mankind. His theories are accepted worldwide and get taught at various colleges around the world. Being partially raised by my grandparents I was never exposed to teachings that fostered a belief in God. I was not I forced to go to church. My grandfather always taught me to think Outside the box. Just like any other kid I wanted to know how we got here, but I got a different answer than others. My grandfather taught me that mankind developed through the process of natural selection. When I was twelve years old I started going to church with a friend s mom. I read one of the thousands versions of bibles available. Kids my age were not willing to listen to some of the theories that I had. Going to church disappointed me because of the ignorance that surrounded me. What I was looking for was a reason why science was wrong and the bible was right. The children didn t have the answer that I needed. They were just taught a certain way, and the adults wouldn t talk to the kids on a serious note.
At school God was always a controversial subject of discussion. In biology class the existence of God was always questioned. The only thing that most children had to fall back on was faith. In my opinion, the only thing that decides whether you believe or not is how or where you grew up. I have always wanted to hear the other side of the argument, but we were always silenced before the class discussion got interesting. The only things I have always heard for the defense of god was something that sounds absurd.
I think that the bible and the Ten Commandments served a lot of good purposes a long time ago. Two of the possible reasons might have been law enforcement or explanation of mankind. When there was no police and no one to punish wrongdoings, parents taught kids to do right or to expect punishment from god. Children knew that even if no one found out about a crime, god would always know. I always thought that each individual is a god in his own way, and that your conscience will never let you forget your wrongdoings. If parents were to raise their kid s right, they would not need to fear authority or other outside forces. I am a strong believer in, What goes around, comes around. Therefore, I always try to help people out. Many years ago people didn t have an explanation of how we got here, they could only speculate. In present day many new facts have come to light, many new discoveries have changed our lives. Should we ignore them and continue believing that we were magically created? Or, should we learn from them and try to answer many more unanswered questions?
We are here today, some say that God used evolution to create us, how and for what reason we might never know. We need to unite in technology, medicine, knowledge and many other things. Whatever will bring people together, raise a more respectful and knowledgeable youth, whether it s Jesus Christ, Allah, or Buddha, I am all for it.
