Tangueros In Milonga Boulevard Essay Research Paper

Tangueros in Milonga Boulevard is a tango ballet. The Milonga is a night ballroom with simple furniture, just hundreds of chairs and spare tables all around the floor. The entire ballet takes place in this setting. Here, Mauro and Celina fall in love, Celina says goodbye to the Tango, and Heaven’s doors open to our star-crossed lovers. The story takes place in the late forties. Celina is considered to be one of the best Tango dancers in Buenos Aires. Mauro leads a normal life and forces her to quit the Tango. Celina dies little by little and dies in his arms. It is here that Mauro realizes how much she loved him and the Tango. He wanders back to the Milonga and tries to take comfort in anyone who vaguely looks like her. His friends try to comfort him, but it is in vain. In the last scene, Celina comes back form Heaven for one more Tango dance. He dies to and together they continue to heaven where the Tango will never end.

When I bought the tickets to go see this show, I honestly didn’t have a clue to what it was really about except the Tango. I simply thought it would be an exhibition of dancers. I wasn’t prepared for the extent of the story, the wordlessness of the show, and the beauty of the dance. I sat on my seat the entire two hours of the show. The choreographing was wonderful. I’ve seen several ballets over the years, and I was really surprised at how great this was. The lighting and costumes set the mood, the small orchestra set the mood and tone throughout the night, and the acting completed it. I would whole-heartedly recommend this show to anyone, whether they know what the tango is or not. I saw the show with my boyfriend and he had a really hard time following the story line. It was funny trying to explain to him the depth I saw the tango ballet in and how literal he was taking it. Just like a man!
