The Aztec were a very interesting group of people. They had a very advanced civilization for there time which you will learn about. They worshipped gods and sacrificed people and had a very religious life.
The Aztec Ruled a mighty empire for more then 1,000 years! For a century the Aztecs of Tenochtitlan had been the greatest power in Mexico. As they grew in political status they became sophisticated and civilized. The Aztecs had a very neat religion that they practiced they worshipped gods and sacrificed people and animals. Some of the most important gods of the Aztecs were Huitzilopochtli the sun and war god, Tlaloc the rain god, and Quetzalcoatl the parton of arts and crafts and the god of self -sacrifice. Human sacrifice played a important role in there ceremonies they had. The Aztec believed that the gods needed human hearts and blood to remain strong . Worshipers sometimes ate portions of a victims body. They may have thought that the dead persons strength and bravery passed to anyone who ate the flesh. Most of the victims were prisoners of war or slaves, but the Aztec also sacrificed children to the god Tlaloc. The Aztec wore skins and feathers both men and women. The Aztec conquered lots of territories at the end they had 489 cities. This helped the Aztecs very much from these new cities they received lots of exotic goods such as gold, copper, tropical feathers, gemstones, rubber, jade, and amber. The Aztecs ate a lot of Tlaxcallis one of there main foods they used it to scoop up other foods or they wrapped the Tlaxcallis around bits of meat and vegetables to form tacos. The Aztecs cooking was rich and spicy. The Aztec had a 260-day religious calendar. Priests used the calendar to determine luck days for such activities as sowing crops, building houses, and going to war.
