Animal CellThe model cell that you are looking at is an animal cell. The model is labeled with all of the typical organelles within a cell membrane. The following words are parts of the cell structure and the different jobs each one performs:Cell Membrane- phospholipid-protein bilayer; separates cell content from the environment. Centrioles- paired structures; assisted during cell reproduction. Chromatin- threadlike mass of DNA and associated proteins found when the cell is not reproducingCytoplasm- fluid encompassing everything inside the cell’s membrane and outside the nucleus. Golgi Apparatus- flattened disks involved in the packaging of proteins, lipids, and carbohydrates, which arrive from the endoplasmic reticulum and ribosomes. Lysosome- membrane-bound sac; site of digestion and storage of digestive enzymes.

Microtubules- protein-rich rods; provide internal support. Mitochondrion- membrane-bound structure; releases energy stored in food. Nuclear envelope- phospholipid-protein bilayer; surrounds the nucleus. Nucleolus- membrane-bound structure; site of ribosomes synthesisNucleus- membrane-bound spherical structure; information center of the cell. Ribosome- small spherical bodies that are the site of protein synthesis. Rough Endoplasmic Reticulum- membrane network with ribosomes attached to the outer surface; involved in protein synthesis and transportation of molecules in the cell. Smooth Endoplasmic Reticulum- membrane network involved in synthesis of lipids and transportation of molecules in the cell. Vesicle- membrane-bound sac; moves protein, lipids, and carbohydrate particles through the cell, or towards the cell membrane where the content are secreted.
