If Jay or Harris or George dwelled on their motto it would soundlike the most famous Murphy low. They all were lazybones. Each was tooself-assured and egoistic. So this trinity attracted troubles.
Because of that, the lives of Jerome's heroes we can hardly callboring. George and Harris always got into the scrapes. During their travelingthey came across many everyday situations, but because of their incompetencethey could do nothing properly. Arrangement for the journey was almost thebrightest example of Murphy's laws effect. «It seemed a longer job than Ihad thought it was going to be; but I got the bag finished at last, and I saton it and strapped it.» Murphy's Law reads as follows: It always takeslonger than you think. But the process of arrangement wasn't finished. Harrisnoticed that Jay hadn't put the boots in and moreover it was still a questionwhether the toothbrush was packed. In this case Murphy can comforts with thestatement: If there is a possibility of several things going wrong, the onethat will cause the most damage will be the one to go wrong.
