A Plan for a Homework Center
The school board came up with an idea of making the school day two periods to give students time to do homework in a homework center. The idea of extending two classes is a good one. There are a lot advantages and disadvantages.
Students could gain a lot from the homework center. They would have less books and work to take home. There would be more time for teachers to help the students that have trouble. That also means the students would have more class time to get more accomplished. Teachers would have more time to get the students prepared for the SOL s. The scores would increase cause the students wouldn t get rushed threw everything they needed to know. There are also disadvantages to the idea. Students would lose quality time with there family. It would be less time to play sports, have club meetings, and other school activities. Kids would be tired and exhausted by the end of the day. It could lead to more dropouts too.
Extending the day has a lot of good things to it, and then it also has its disadvantages. The school board needs to really put a lot of thought in the idea. They need to really look at both the disadvantages and advantages. The school board should go through those things first and hopefully make a good decision.
