He lived from (1875-1963). I chose this person because I liked his name and he sounded very interesting. He was born in Paris, Kentucky on March 4, 1875. He was the seventh of eleven children in his family. He has a degree in Traffic Engineering. In 1913, Morgan developed a process that could straighten hair. He made the Morgan Hair Refinishing Company. Hair straightening was not a big invention although he made a lot of money in this business. When he received a grad prize at a New York Safety and Sanitation Fair, no one was too interested in his invention. But in 1916, when deadly gasses filled a tunnel 250 feet below Lake Erie, someone remembered his invention the “breathing device” developed by Garrett Augustus Morgan.

In 1923, Morgan received a patent on another new innovation, the traffic signal. He sold his invention to the General Electric company for $40,000. Morgan’s invention was replaced with the light signal. Garrett Augustus Morgan changed the world in many ways. He helped the firefighters go through smoke. He helped us win World War I because we could go through all the chemicals safely. The Traffic Signal has saved many lives. If we didn’t have a traffic signal, there would probably be more car crashes. He affected my safety during my life. He has made many more people today safer. I learned that a lot of inventions help all of our lives today. I think that Garrett Morgan should be more famous for his inventions than he is.
