Story Pie

Motivation:Say: ?Today we are going to make a cherry pie?

Ask: ?What is the first thing we have to do??

Procedure:

1.Elicit and discuss responses.

2.Say: ?Now we are going to make ?A River Ran Wild? pie.? ?What is the first thing we learned about the river??

3.Elicit and discuss responses.

4.Ask: ?What do you predict will happen to the river next??

5.Elicit and discuss responses.

6.Finish reading ?A River Ran Wild?.

7.Break class into four groups.

8.Assign each group a period of time in the river?s history.

9.Distribute pie slices.

10.Students will write information regarding their assigned time period on the pie slice.

11.Combine slices to form complete pie.

12.Read completed story pie.

13.Clean up.

Follow-up:For homework, draw two pictures. The first picture is something that is polluted in your neighborhood. The second picture is how that place would look if it were cleaned. (Fold your paper in half; one picture on each side).
