B. To find this I went to the reference section and look under the DLB’s and saw Shakespearean Criticism. So then I found the pages about Julius Caesar and looked for the critics Brooke and Bloom. Brooke thought it was “a political play, asserting that it dramatizes the principal reasons why revolutions which are in the right do not always succeed against forms of government which are in the wrong.” Bloom claims that although Caesar is unable to achieve his personal goal of winning the hearts if the Roman nobility, he is still a political man with no equal.

C. After picking out the Contempory Literary Criticism Vol. 2 I realized that there was no index in the back of the book, I thought surely that I was going to have trouble with this question. But, I asked Ms. Barron and she directed me to the last Volume of the CLC. I got the last volume and looked up the index. The index lists all author entries in the Gale Literary Criticism Series and included cross-reference to other Gale source and has page number in parentheses after the Volume number. It seemed to be hard to understand but I finally did.

D. I chose to start on letter “D” because I knew where the Dictionary of Literary Biographies was located. After going to the reference section picked up the last volume of the DLB, I started looking in the index. Finally, I found Virginia Woolf in the back of the book. Next to her name was, DLB- 36, 100, 162, and 149, so I concluded the numbers were the volumes where she was located. Virginia Woolf was an English novelist; she was an innovative influence on the 20th-century novel. In her writing she concentrated on the flow of ordinary experience through the STREAM OF CONSCIOUSNESS technique. Her prose is poetic, symbolic, and visual. Woolf’s novels include Mrs. Dalloway, To the Lighthouse, Orlando, The Waves, and Between the Acts.

I used the following resources:

“Virginia Woolf.” Dictionary of Literary Biography. 96th vol.

Ed. Samuel W. Bruce. Washington DC: Gale Research, 1997.

“Virginia Woolf.” Concise Columbia Electronic Encyclopedia

E. The hint you used made no sense to me, but after I found the book, I understood. Well, I knew that Julius Caesar was by Shakespeare, so that narrowed down my search. Then I look at all the reference books having to do with Shakespeare. Then I saw “The Annotated Shakespeare,” which was a dead give away. So I found the Play Julius Caesar and turned to act 2, scene 3, line 14, then used the vocabulary help to understand what this line meant. It means, beyond the reach of envy.

F. I believe that this is the hardest question I answered. It took me so long! First, thanks to Julia who had used this once before for a project, I went straight to the Pride means pleasure or satisfaction derived from some action, possession. The quality of having high opionion of oneself. It was adopted in c1000.

G. The hint helped me a lot. I used the hint, about Romantic Art, and went to the card catalog and typed in Romantic Art and I was directed to the book “Romantic Art.” I look up Thomas Cole in the back and found “Course of an Empire.” I finally found out that it illustrates landscapes and cycles on human destiny.

I. When I read the hint, I automatically knew where it was because everytime I walk into the library I see that picture. The picture is on your left as you walk into the library, it is a picture of the Chairman of the Board at Hammond. I went to the picture and read the brief document about him and found out his name. The Chairman’s name is John Adger Manning and yes he is wearing glasses.

J. First I thought that maybe the Birthday Book Club was the answer, because I use to always be a part of that club. Your parents would send in money at the beginning of the year and when it was your birthday, then the librarians would take you in the back and show you a bunch of books. You then would pick out a book and donate it to the library. The book would have a donation sticker inside that said you had donated this book to the Library. But, then I realized you could not request a book for the Birthday Book club, so I knew I was wrong. My second-guess was there was a request box. So, I looked around the library and I did not see a request box. Then I started to think, well if I really want a book then what would I do. I would find out all the information about the book and write it down on a piece of paper. I would then talk to the Liberians and ask them about the book I wanted and show them the piece of paper to see if the school had enough money to order the book for the library.

K. Haven used the Critical Survey of Short Fiction before; I was quite familiar with it. So, I knew it had to be in that book. I went to the reference section, pickup the Critical Survey of Short Fiction labeled H, for Hawthorne, and finally I look up Hawthorne, Nathaniel. I read part of the article on him and saw that somebody had used a pencil to underline the answer! When I saw what that person had done, I erased the pencil mark because you are not supposed to mark in the reference books, or any books. Then I finished reading to make sure that I had found the correct answer. The short stories create a mood or present idea. The more complex the short stories revel characters through incident. His works contain allegorical flavor and psychological validity.

M. I never realized that the big wooden school of fish was made in Belize, but I never really thought about it before now. I knew I had to find someone who had been to Belize and I knew my sister had. Unfortunently, my sister was not in the library at the moment, so Julia and I spotted Mr. Snead. He had gone to Belize, so why not ask him? So we did, he said, “Hammond students made it in 1990 when George Gab came to this school. Also, George Gab is the national artist of Belize” (Mr. Snead in the library)

Q. This was a very difficult question I automatically went over to the Dictionary that was on the stand over by the Fiction and look up the word Exegesis, it had a long definition, so I just used the beginning and simplified it. Exegesis is an exposition of a scripture; an explanatory note or discourse.
