My name is Keisha Armstrong. I was born in Jamaica. I am the baby and the only girl of the four children that my parents share. I moved to the United States at the age of thirteen. Throughout my life was very ambitious. All through my life I was motivated in doing good in school.

I always hated English because being from Jamaica with a Jamaican accent, I seem to pronouce words differently from everyone else. And the children in my class would tease me which discouraged me. So, I stuck with what I loved- Math. However, as I got older and starting loosing my focus my grades began dropping and so did my interest in school. Not to mention the pressure of having the wrong group of friends.

Yes, friends. The same friends that encouraged me to leave school and start hanging out late and partying. This did nothing but lead me into being a parent at a early age. No, I don’t regret this because I love my children very much.

These same bad choices that I made did nothing but lead me to a sentence of five years of incarceration. Just for being in the wrong place at the wrong time. During these years, all I could do was think about the bad choices I made in my life. And in an effort to correct that I enrolled in Marist College.

I want nothing but the best for my children I hope they don’t make the same mistakes in life like I did. And if getting degree and setting an example for them is best. That is definitely my goal. And it will also fulfil the thirst that I have within to learn and to utilize my mind to the best of my ability. For I know I am capable of accomplishing whatever my little heart desire.
