Calvin Coolidge Quotes Essay, Research Paper
?I have never been hurt by anything I did not say.? This quote came from some old man by the name of Calvin Coolidge. He was the United States 30th president and was well known for his great thoughts and quotes.
This quote does not mean just to quit talking all together it means listen and think before you speak. It would be a very boring life not to talk for fear of being hurt or embarrassed by something wrong you just said so you have to learn when and when not to speak. For example a time when not to speak: you just got caught by your parent doing something you shouldn?t have done and are one the verge of being grounded for weeks this is a great time to keep your mouth shut and just take the tongue lashing and you just might come out o.k.
Now sometimes there is a need for you to talk??.. For example in class your teacher asks you to answer a question you better not sit there with a dull look on your face because this would be a time when not talking might just get you hurt.
Talking is maybe the greatest privilege we have ever discovered, besides maybe breathing, and it is definitely the most used way of communication. We take it for granted and talk much more than we need to. Sometimes your actions can be more helpful and more persuasive than your words.
By thinking before you talk or just not saying anything prevents not only you from getting hurt but it also prevents you from hurting other people. If you do not think before you talk you can really hurt people?s feelings. You will feel like dirt and really regret saying anything.
Sometimes it is good just to plug up your mouth with something so words don?t accidentally come out.
Next time you are about to blurt out something wait and think if you really need to say it because like Calvin Coolidge you can never be hurt by anything you don?t say.
